A huge mistake most business owners make is to take a broad-brush approach to marketing and think everyone could be a possible client for their Business product or service. This one size fits all approach is the main reason businesses waste hard earned dollars on generic, same old, boring advertising & marketing. They target everyone and appeal to no one!

You need to profile your ideal paying client from the information you should have gathered from existing clients and work out the best way to get in front of them with a message that resonates and calls on them to take action. Preferably today!

If you’re in Real Estate, People buying their first home are a different target market to someone buying a luxury water front home and they are different from people moving into your area from out of town. Your marketing should target these people and talk to them as separate groups with different motives and you should have a message which they can recognise as being of interest to them.

If you are a financial adviser do you want to work with wealth accumulators? Retirees? clients with self-managed super funds? These are distinctively different groups, and any advertising, marketing should recognise and reflect their differences and what is required in your marketing as a call to action.

A business broker surely wouldn’t use the same marketing to appeal to a manufacturing businesses the way they would a retail shop or restaurant ……..would they?
